Joseph Sylvester Construction Co., Inc.

Civic Association Honors Larricia, Top Builders

The Boardman Civic Association recognized best building in Boardman Township during 2004 and handed out its Community Service Award during a banquet held at the Community Center in Boardman Park on Monday night.  Two of the township’s most prominent developers, Dave Handel and the Joseph Sylvester Construction Co. were recognized.  Handel, in partnership with Chuck Bishara and Michael Morley, received an award for the Best Remodeled Building in Boardman in 2004, a site at the Shops at Boardman Park that formerly housed a tire center, that has been renovated to include a now popular coffee shop.  Sylvester was honored for Best New Building, for his work in the constructing the new Caffe Capri, 8000 Market St., operated by the Quaranta Family.  The Community Service Award was given to local philanthropist Anthony Lariccia, of Squirrel Hill. Dr. Lariccia’s philanthropy has included generous donations to the Performing Arts Center at Boardman High School, the Davis Family YMCA on McClurg Rd., and the renovation of Olde St. James Church in Boardman Park.  In brief remarks, Lariccia said Boardman is the hub of activity in Mahoning County.  Lariccia, a graduate of Struthers High School, will be honored in April with the Hall of Fame Award by the Struthers School Foundation for Educational Excellence.
