Sylvester Construction Enjoys Building Boom
Sylvester Construction Co., Boardman, was busy with three major commercial projects last year, and the company is kicking off 2007 with a lease contract to prepare a 10,000-square foot building for a large, national medical firm.
Joe Sylvester Jr., chief executive officer, says the company finished the exterior of The Shops at Southwestern Place, a 10,500-square-foot retail center on East Western Reserve Road. The Southwestern-style plaza features individualized, build-to-suit spaces, all with street-front accessibility. It is part of a larger community, Southwestern Place, that includes residential condominiums, professional offices, banks, and restaurants.
Two tenants have contracted for space in the new plaza, he says. George Zannetakis, former owner of Janos Family Restaurant, will open Theo’s Restaurant and Deli and an interactive paint and mosaic studio, Blazed & Bedazzled, is opening there.
Sylvester Construction built new quarters on Western Reserve Road for Ameripath Labs, a national provider of pathology services with 15 affiliated pathologists locally. Ameripath moved its regional headquarters from Southern Boulevard into the 16,000 square-foot building.
The company broke ground in May on Fairfield Commons, a professional office complex owned by Dr. Ron Yarab and Randy Hart and located on State Route 14 in Columbiana.
Moveable TrandWall systems used for interior design in commercial buildings have been a big seller for the company, Sylvester says, and he expects to see more growth in that division. An ecology-friendly alternative to drywall, he explains, TrendWall systems are more than 95% reusable, 100% recyclable, and contain 43.5% recycled content based on weight.
Founded in 1956 by Joseph Sylvester Sr., president and CEO’s father, Sylvester Construction began as a building construction firm, gradually branching out to include real estate development, commercial rental and property management.
