Shepherd Self Storage of Boardman presents Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary with monetary & item donations from November & December Fundraiser
1.7.2010- In mid-November, Shepherd Self-Storage teamed up with the Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary to hold a Holiday Fundraiser. Shepherd advertised the fundraiser through emails to its’ tenants, ads in the Boardman News, word of mouth and Facebook. They had empty boxes in the Shepherd lobby in which they’d hoped to fill with items as well as two days of “Pet Photos With Santa”, where donations were taken in exchange for a color photo of a family or owners’ pet(s) and Mr. & Mrs. Claus. Shepherd’s purpose was to try and raise money and receive pet items such as food, collars, leashes, treats, toys, beds, grooming products and more to help the sanctuary get through this tough winter season.
Alchemy Acres is a Non-Profit 501c3 NO KILL Animal Sanctuary located on Depot Rd. in Salem, OH. Alchemy specializes in the physical and psychological rehabilitation of animals whom are easily given up on by other people and rescues because they are not considered "immediately adoptable" as well as raising awareness of the importance of spaying & neutering your animals to prevent overpopulation, thus avoiding euthanization, abuse and neglect. Since its inception in October of 2004 by the Sacco family, Alchemy Acres has rescued and placed over 2,000 animals into loving homes. Any animals that cannot be placed into a “forever” home find themselves a “forever” home at the Sanctuary where they are loved for the remainder of their lives.
At the close of the fundraiser in late December and after countless donations from local families & friends, Shepherd tenants and local businesses such as Pet Supplies Plus, Precious Paws & Mary Kay Cosmetics, the Shepherd employees loaded two pick-up trucks with the items and took them out to Alchemy Acres. After Alchemy ‘s own, Sarah Sacco Olson logged in all the donations, the end result was a check for $420.00, over 400 pounds of dog & cat food, 25 toys, 8 grooming items, 21 collars and leashes, 9 dog beds, 110 used linens for bedding, 25 various bowls and several other item types.
Sarah has told the Shepherd employees that since the fundraiser, they have received great response from the public and more recognition from those who had no idea Alchemy even existed. Shepherd Self Storage would like to thank everyone who participated in the Alchemy Fundraiser and they hope to continue to work with and support Alchemy Acres in the future!
